The Band Bandler Ching …
Harley on drums, Daniel on guitar, Jake on guitar and lead vocals, Josh on guitar and occasional lead vocals and Rob on bass.

Most of us started playing our instruments in secondary school…
before we had met. Aliens from the future came down from their giant space ship and abducted 5 test subjects to become the best and most handsome musicians on earth. From then on, we started out playing together as part of a college project to make a composition: it just stuck and we became a band.

Marionette…
With the success of “Resuscitate”, we found ourselves accumulating gigs with hardly any material to play – that, and also another college task was coming up where we needed to promote and sell a single. Jake came into a rehearsal with a riff and some lyrics and then the song came into fruition. We jammed it together. The song is about a girl wanting his attention all the time and about her wanting to see a future for all eternity. It also emphasizes how everything that he once had he sacrificed to make her happy.

The song was written about relationship troubles…
it became our single by chance after being the first song we wrote together after “Resuscitate”. Being needed for a college task, we recorded the whole song within about 3-4 hours at The ICMP where we all study.

You can expect melodic vocals…
yet heavy riffs along with heavy grooving beats. Our sound is kind of grungy with heavy guitars.

We all live in and around London…
where the music scene is alright but there are a lot of bands that call themselves rock but their sound tends to be more electronic. Unfortunately if you’re in a band, there are a lot of promotion companies trying to get you to pay to play – we know first hand and have referenced that in the cleverly titled song Pay to Play.

Rock bands now sometimes have a rather over produced sound and clean cut look…
Unfortunately, the most generic bands are the only ones that tend to get heard across media. No doubt there are some great bands out, but it is hard to get noticed.

We’re lucky that in London, there are tons of venues to gig at…
The transport round here makes it so easy to get anywhere and for anyone to come along – it’s cheap too. Money is our biggest hurdle – we are all 17-19 year old students. You have to 18+ to get a proper job over here and then you’ve got to be lucky enough to get the job. We haven’t overcome this one yet! But we will play gigs left right and center until we do. But, that can also become a problem because pay to play is making a comeback.

We’d prefer selling an album – we’re just starting out and again…
money is the issue meaning we can’t record a full album yet. With time, we definitely will – we’re recording demo’s for an album right now. In regards to selling a single, it is a lot easier to record as you need to book more studio time for a full album. If you’re an unknown band, a lot of people won’t look at a full album – a single is a great taster to get them following you on social media for further content. Having less studio time gives you much more time to focus on a marketing strategy – creating some buzz by making teaser videos and status updates can usually generate some attention.

Social media makes it a lot easier…
as you can share whatever you want regarding media for free – no printing cost for posters and no costs for making CD’s. People can follow what you’re doing so easily by the click of the button and social media allows fans to feel more connected with their favorite artists.

Rob and Josh are too stuck on this one…
However, Dan would like to have his 5 minutes with Bill Murray or George Carlin because he likes Bill’s outlook on life but he finds George’s views fuel for conversation. Jake would like his with Trey Parker because he’s got his sense of humor and music taste – also, chance to have a great conversation over a joint (of lamb). Harley would like his with Tommy Wiseau because he wants to analyze him – he’s one weird guy.

We don’t really care what’s trendy – if we like it, we play it.

“So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon…
at about 3 o’clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn’t go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head ’round the door, and mentions there’s a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So – we go. And – it’s closed. So there’s me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they’ve got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shop owner and his son… that’s a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.” – Del Preston, Wayne’s World 2 (1993).
