GETTING TO KNOW DELL P
by Jacqueline Jax
I got started in music by seeing my uncles and their friends doing it when I was 9 years old. I have always had an interest in music since the Run DMC days, but seeing my uncles having fun rapping I knew I could do it too. Once I heard A Tribe Called Quest’s “Bonita Applebum” I fell in love with Hip Hop.
which was inspired by the legendary Gil Scott Heron. The title is a spin off from a song called “The Bottle” that Gil recorded in the 70’s. The concept of my song touches on police brutality, black on black crime, the lack of support within the school system, and also the fact that we individually need to take a look in the mirror to do some soul searching. I really have a feeling that this song will touch many people. ( iTunes https://t.co/XCUw5p15AC)
My album is “A New Beginning”….
I feel like it’s time to bring hiphop back to the essence. We have to remind the people that this culture was built on storytelling and originality. My album gives you that golden era feeling of the 90’s but at the same time I keep up with the current events. This is a very special body of work and people are saying that it’s one of the best albums they have heard in years.
was in born and raised in West Philadelphia. The same neighborhood of Schooly D, Steady B, Cool C, Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, and Da Youngstas. I’m from a neighborhood that breeds legendary artist. Philadelphia has some of the best talent in the world but also the roughest crowd to win over. If you can make it here you can make it anywhere. My favorite place to go in Philly would have to be Warmdaddy’s since they have the best live band shows and great soul food. I love to perform but other than music I like to go bowling.
I like the fact that I get to connect with different cultures because we share one great thing in common and that would be hiphop. The social network has gained me fans all over the world. I get messages from troops over in Iraq saying that my music keeps them going. It gets no better than that!
I would love to have 5 minutes alone with….
I would have love to have been able to meet the Notorious B.I.G. because he is my biggest inspiration far as emcees. Biggie inspired me because he made it cool to be yourself and he was versatile with his music. Sky’s The Limit is my favorite hiphop song ever.
I feel like the lyrical emcees are storming our way back to the forefront. I don’t ride waves I create my own. Even if a trend might work for other artists I stick to what I believe in because I refuse to conform to the industry.
When I create, I come up with the melodies in my head, but I complete the songs with a pen and pad the traditional way.
I am my own competition therefore my goal is to make every project better than my last one. My aim is perfection.
I would say having a career doing what I love to do most. Being able to provide opportunity for myself, family, and close friends without changing who I am. That would be the ultimate success story in my eyes.
My biggest fear is…
working hard at my craft and not being appreciated. I feel like I was born to make music.
I’m hoping that…
the world will get to hear my story and that I inspire the youth to be leaders.
There are a few labels interested in me but we will talk about that later. Just keep me in prayer and stay tuned!!! #OneLove
Dell P is the true definition of hip hop. A west Philadelphia native who isn’t afraid to create his own lane and refuse to conform to the new waves of the industry . Dell P has a lot of great things currently happening for him as well as on the horizon.
Dell-P has performed at many premier locations in the Philadelphia area including but not limited to the TLA, Sigma Sound, and the Mann Music Center. His musical talents have granted him the opportunity to open up for hip-hop greats such as Memphis Bleek, Fabolous, and State Property.
Dell-P dropped his new project this summer on the WHOMAG/SONY Distribution imprint, and from the comments on iTunes, his project “A New Beginning” is exactly what he’s got in store for Hip-Hop as he sees it…I’ll say there are some like minds out there hungry…”A New Beginning” feeds them properly.
