I’ve suffered from depression and addiction most of my life. I relapsed in 2013 and was detoxing off of 7 different substances when I went temporarily blind. After regaining my sight, I had what appeared to be a strobe light in my right eye for several days. I wanted to know what living was, what joy and happiness were, and what kind of person lay beneath the damaged, scarred, tear soaked vessel I was living in. After an entire lifetime of drug and alcohol abuse, and now sober since 9/13, It took a Strobe Light Eye to finally “see the light”. And the unveiling continues…  @DezRocket

I began writing music at an early age…
usually banging out rhythms on coffee and oatmeal canisters, my makeshift drumkit. I invented my own personal music notation, and by the time I was 11 I had a stack of songs. My professional career started when I was scouted to be the lead vocalist for a band called Xeno, which included the first original guitarist of REO Speedwagon, Steve Scorfina. It was my 4th band by that time, making a kid just out of his teens very happy. We eventually began touring North America.

STROBE LIGHT EYE…
It’s a song based on my real life events. And the unveiling continues…

Hopefully a full spectrum of emotions…
pain to joy, and make your toes tap, your knees freeze, and your liver quiver. I’ve just been releasing singles to this point, and plan on releasing a 7 song ep in the fall, which will include some new tracks I’m currently working on.

I moved to St. Louis, Missouri…
from Van Nuys, California primarily to get clean and find some serenity. I’m focused on spiritual growth and don’t get out too much. They have a huge beautiful park here called Tower Grove that I frequent routinely for 5 mile runs and/or relaxation. I am looking forward to my imminent return to CA, to be close to the coast, and the people that love me the most.

Music business…
I have had the pleasure of working with many great artists and quite a few big names whether it be onstage or the tech side, and have had many great experiences. But, the business is quite ruthless with a scammy type person waiting at every turn. I remember doing a show years ago in Pomona,CA. After our set the promoter handed me a wad of cash, our take from the door, shook my hand and split. Soon after his departure I started counting the money and quickly realized it was all 1’s. He kept all the big bills and disappeared. Life in the Biz: A shortfall of sincerity. Treasure the good relationships you make.

Social media…
I’ve only been on it a little over a year. A management team I was working with at the time set it up for me. It has a big upside and seems to be the one of the most important tools a modern act has for promotion. Marketing has never really been my bag, but since I’ve taken it over I think I’m slowly warming up to it.

Singles vs an album…
There’s a much longer wait between albums as opposed to releasing singles, but I’ll be able to give you a better more thoughtful answer after I release my album later this year.

I would love to have 5 minutes alone with…
My Grandparents. They’ve been gone for over 25 years. They taught me the most about life as a young boy growing up, and I miss them dearly.

Current and trendy…
There will always be band wagoners, scene whores, trying to jump on the latest thing. I think a person should find out who they are, know who they are, and stick with what works for them, regardless.

I am most afraid of…
watching the human race increasingly disconnect form Mother Earth and all her inhabitants. Every animal, plant, mineral, human… are all made from the same space dust, which means we are all related, and everything on this planet needs to be respected more. Life is very precious!

My personal definition of success is..
Loving what you do, and helping all those in need. I remember giving a guy bus fare to get home, and after he payed the driver, he got off the bus for a moment, walked into Van Nuys Blvd, and started yelling “God bless you Dez! God bless you!”

My over all goal for my life & career is…
to find happiness, big things and small

3 Ways that I challenge myself…
1)Spiritual Growth
2)Staying Positive
3)Tuning my brain to the flow of creation
