“I wrote the song about my best friend (who’s actually one of the friends I mentioned above). He’s always had my back through many periods of my life and is one of those friends I feel like I can talk to about anything. I wanted to write a song for him and  to thank him for his friendship.” –  @jakealdridgeuk

My father passed away unexpectedly…
when I was 11 and I never really knew how to deal with that. I took a few wrong turns but finally found comfort in keeping a diary and I even began rhyming the words within it. Writing my thoughts down on paper was a way for me to express myself. I was always into Rap Music, so I naturally performed the lyrics in the form of a Rap. One night after a few too many drinks, I performed some of these Raps to a couple of my closest friends. They were blown away by my lyrics and encouraged me to pursue my writing further. I eventually turned the raps into songs.

When I’m Feeling Down feat Ellie Jamison…
I wrote the song about my best friend (who’s actually one of the friends I mentioned above). He’s always had my back through many periods of my life and is one of those friends I feel like I can talk to about anything. I wanted to write a song for him and  to thank him for his friendship. The track was produced by Johann Elliott, who is a fantastic producer from California. I’d like to lock him in my studio and only feed him after he creates new beats.
I was keen to find a new singer to collaborate with and stumbled across Ellie Jamison, after clicking a link from BBC Suffolk Introducing’s page. I loved her voice and her songs and I reached out to her. Thankfully, she was keen to get involved and helped me take the track to another level by adding ideas of her own. She’s a fantastic Artist her self and has worked closely with Amy Wadge, who co-wrote the Grammy winning ‘Thinking Out Loud’ with Ed Sheeran.

I hope that people will understand that my songs are about real life topics…
and I hope that listeners can tell that I’m really turning myself inside out on many of my tracks. I don’t like to ‘water them down’. I’ve never been afraid to show people the real me. My music is a combination of Hip-Hop & RnB and I always say ” You can love it or hate it, but you can’t deny it’s different”. I hope people can appreciate that.

I live in Suffolk, which is on the East Coast of the UK…
it’s an amazingly peaceful place to live. We have some great artist’s here too, many of which, I have had the pleasure of working with – such as ‘Ellie Jamison, Kelly Brooks, Kelly Jenns, Lisa Ambrose & Steve Moyse’. Ed Sheeran was also from Suffolk too.

I love to surprise people…
whether that’s through music or other means. I recently surprised a 10 year old fan with a Live performance at her birthday Party. The look on her face was priceless & she was so polite, she must have thanked me for being there at least 10 times. it made me feel like I was Jay Z.
I love all the different social media accounts…
and enjoy connecting with listeners in many different ways. I also like that they can connect with me on more of a personal level too and get a bit more of feel for how I am as a person, not just in music. Many fans have followed me from Myspace to Facebook and that’s a pretty cool feeling. I was avoiding Instagram for a long time, but now that I’ve bit the bullet and gave it go, I actually quite like it.

I much prefer releasing one single at a time…
I feel like I can put more into each song this way, and I feel like each song has to be good enough for me to feel inspired to go through with it. I want to be active all the time with new music and would hate  to disappear for like a year and then return with an albums worth of songs. I want to stay in people’s minds and give them one song at a time.
I would love to have 5 minutes alone with Nelly…
Some people may find that a surprising choice, but he’s an artist who I feel has at times, had a similar style and sound to my music and I think he’s definitely someone I could learn a lot from. I love how he can sing and Rap and flip between the two, like sometimes you can’t even figure out whether he’s singing or rapping. There might be elements of both at one time.
I think there will always be people who like to play…
‘following the leader’ but it’s not a game I like to indulge in. I love people for being themselves, no mater how ‘weird’ or ‘whacky’ that may be. It gives them character, and I’m all about that. I’ve always said that to me the word ‘weird’ is just another word for ‘different’ and I think being different is always a wonderful thing.
I’m most afraid of getting old….
I feel like Music gives me a purpose in life and I haven’t yet figured out what I’ll do when I’m not making music anymore.
My definition of success will always be how happy it makes you…
If you’re happy in your life, no matter what you’re doing, then to me you have been successful. It’s not about Money for me, It never has been. I’m all about being happy. If my music went to number 1, I’d get so much more happiness from the achievement itself than I ever could from the money I’d make from doing so.
My overall goal for my life and my career is…
to be happy and to achieve something special with my music. I feel like I’m still taking baby steps and overcoming small hurdles and I am happy with the progress I am making. I’ve always said I’d love to be in the charts or to have one of my songs in a film perhaps. I’m super excited about a future release ‘Fireman’ which to me, Is my best one yet . We’re shooting a music video for it soon as well. It features Lisa Ambrose & was produced by Year 92.
I want to keep getting better with my music…
I want bigger productions and to write better songs. I want more people hearing those songs as well and i need to keep working hard and to always think outside of the box to try and achieve great things. I’m going to be saving my pennies for a huge release with ‘Fireman’.
