Chapter One is the album and it is a labor of love. It is a glimpse at our unique artistry and sound. We intended for the album to be diverse and also a linear experience when listened to in sequence, but each song has a life of its own and may be enjoyed separately as well. Regardless of your musical proclivities, there is something for you within Chapter One. – @JerryandJoy

Jerry Hermosillo and Joy Jaeger

We began performing together as part of an 11 piece cover band called Thumpin’ based in Denver and began writing together and performing as a duo. A mutual respect and creativity emerged and we began writing our original songs and this project was born.

“How could You”
Jerry was working on the music. He wrote a groove oriented composition that would give Joy the opportunity to showcase her lyrics. The result is this song that we both helped craft the melodies and structure. It has since become one of our fan favorites. The song itself is about the unwillingness to love. Sometimes love is unexpected, unwarranted or unwanted, but it happens anyway. This song is about what happens before we give in to love, before we accept love’s reality.

Joy currently lives in Denver. Jerry currently lives in Thornton…
The Denver music scene is very diverse and mostly thriving. We have lots a huge names come to play here and many smaller local acts who are able to find their followings here. We both are music educators and help mentor other area artists as there are plenty of gigs to go around. Jazz at Jacks, Hoffbrau, and the quintessential Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

The music business is…
a tough nut to crack. It’s a struggle to stay true to your craft while making sure to meet your goals and expectations while of course making money. However, it is the vehicle that has brought us many of the songs we can’t live without. The music industry machine has been necessary in the past but now independent releases can be just as noteworthy and successful due to fan reach and programs like this one.

Pros: Meeting all the wonderful musicians that this town has to offer has been a very positive experience. Not only are most of our collaborators top notch musicians, but they are also great people. Having fans passionately love the music you make. Cons: The struggle of finding the right venues and promotions for your sound. Not being paid what you are worth. Not getting your music heard by more people.

We turn our struggles into triumphs by…
persevering through the obstacles that come our way. We are driven, some may say relentless in our pursuit of musical creativity and expression. When we have writer’s block, we have each other to bounce ideas off of and push towards our best result. It is always nice to get a nice paycheck but we are also passionate about creating music we can be proud of.

Our influences…
Joy would like 5 minutes alone with Chaka Khan because she is a songwriter, arranger, poet and ridiculously talented vocalist who knows the industry. I am inspired by her artistry but also by her business acumen and ability to stay true to herself while remaining relevant.

Jerry would like 5 minutes alone with Stevie Wonder because he is a legendary singer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist and producer. A true inspiration in that he is able to feel and create the music in ways that no one else can.
