 Auto Pilot…

The song was…
really just something that came to me as I listened to the beat produced by Lew Jay, originally titled “Coming for Me”. It’s mostly about making progress through hard work, despite the negative energy many people give you on your journey. As one ascends into flight, these same people desire to be associated with that success but are now out sight on the ground, while those that invested in the beginning are in the air with you.

This track is from my album Pyramids…
The feel of Pyramids is simultaneously dark and energetic. The production is very diverse, very high quality, and the music ranges in topic from reflection to self declaration.

This album is…
incredibly significant to me for a number of reasons. Firstly, this is my most well received project. Secondly, this was such a comfortable album to make because I felt like I finally came into what my sound is, and from there I was able to make a cohesive group of songs to display that sound. this album gives a listener a bit of who I am as an artist.

I come from Oakland, Ca…
A lot of music comes out of here because we have so much history in music. At times it feels like everyone out here is an artist of some sort, but that isn’t a bad thing. I find that the sound here is a direct reflection of the scenery. Most people think “hyphy” when they think of the Oakland sound, and that is a major sound/energy that comes from here. However, there is also a strong political feel in our music, as well as a lot of street stories. Given Oakland’s history with the Black Panthers and the crack epidemic, all of this makes sense.

I feel like the music industry is…
such a tough thing to break into, and once inside the struggle becomes maintaining one’s self.

I would love to have 5 minutes alone with….
So many that inspire me, this is a tough question. Jay Z immediately comes to mind, just the opportunity to soak up that wisdom that allowed a guy to ascend to that level from nothing. E-40 is another for the same reason.
