Keep Dreaming …
wrote this song sitting on top of my truck in the middle of a causeway (land bridge) in tampa bay. I was feeling a little heart break at the time. Girlfriend had just ended things between us and I wasn’t on board. I was so upset, I found myself dreaming about the two of us together and happy, only to wake up and have reality set in. the dreams were so vivid and all I wanted to do at the time was find some way to hang on to her, so I would immediately try to fall back asleep. I just wanted to keep dreaming about her and that is where the song idea came from. It was one of those songs that just pours out of you. I wrote the whole thing right there, start to finish, on the roof of my pick up.

New EP…
I am extremely excited about my new EP coming out this fall. It’s definitely a redemption album for me. I spent a few years falling apart to some degree.

I damaged my voice badly a few years ago and started to think I would never recover from that injury. It was like getting my wings clipped. It was devastating but I decided instead to tap into the tenacity I got from my mother and find a way to heal and become better than I previously was.

I spent a lot of time making funny noises (vocal exercises) and basically had to learn how to sing all over again, this time from a much more analytical perspective. It wasn’t “just sing the notes” anymore. it was much more mechanical; more efficient. Now I love my voice because when it fell apart I rebuilt it, brick by pharyngeal brick.

I’m hoping people hear this music and feel what I was feeling when I wrote it. To me, that is the whole point of music. It conjures emotions in us and once they’re out, lets us feel them with those around us. it connects, and that is what i want to do… connect.

Florida…
I live in tampa, FL but i was born and raised in St. Louis MO.  Tampa Has a rich music community. there are some really talented people here. there is a kind of unspoken brotherhood in the music community here. everyone is amicable. most of the musicians here are friends and everyone has your back. it’s a great thing to be a part of. as far as places to see music, it’s everywhere. The Ritz, and Jannus Live are amazing venues where all the big acts perform when they come to town. there are also a couple of really cool listening room style venues for people who really want to get lost in a performers music. places like the hideaway cafe and the attic at rock brothers brewery fit that description.
