GETTING TO KNOW LO NOOM
by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio
Back to the Beginning…
Lo Noom took guitar lessons at age 9. His teacher started missing lessons, but despite what may seem like a set back, he started teaching himself everything he knows.
Just Released Dreary…
Dreary is basically just about a boring Saturday that I wasted watching a bunch of movies while seeing snapchat stories of my friends doing a bunch of stuff without me. Being bored and missing out are the main inspirations. I sampled the song Telephone Line by Electric Light Orchestra and then added a bass line and a guitar melody over it. My friends and I are still working out a music video for it so it’s in the process and we will hopefully get one posted soon.
I just released my debut album Groovy. I named it that because it’s one of my favorite words and I feel like its a concise description of the album. I spent 24 hours at a time in my bedroom recording all night long over a period of a couple of months. My aim for this album was to make music for people to listen to while driving at night during the summer time.
From the small town of Hattiesburg, Mississippi…
I honestly haven’t participated in the music scene in Hattiesburg (yet) but we do have a semi-decent one actually. Being 17, it is a little bit harder to get gigs. We do have one cool coffee/record shop that I like to go to (and would eventually love to play at) and a bunch of good restaurants. One of my favorite things to do is watch home videos and that’s where I draw a lot of musical inspiration. It gives me this really weird nostalgic feeling that plays a huge part in the songs I write.
I make songs and upload them to Soundcloud…
I get a minuscule amount of listens and feedback. That’s about all I know. I’m still in high school so it’s not like I have any financial issues. My only struggle right now seems to be getting more people to like and listen to my music. Some of my best friends haven’t even listened to my whole album which is a little discouraging. I just started putting myself out there though, and I am not signed with a label or anything, but I’m trying whatever I can do to get my music heard.
My favorite band of all time is..
the Supremes. Every song that they ever made was perfect. It’s like they covered every relatable topic on the subject of love. And I’m not sure if it is because my parents played them all the time while I was growing up, but every time I hear them I miss my family, and I feel really happy and nostalgic.
I think success is…
Being happy with whatever I am doing and wherever I am.
What to expect in the future..
I plan on releasing a new album this fall. This one is gonna be less techno and more bandy. I have all the songs written for the most part so recording will be a lot different than the “make it as I go” technique of the first album. I am really obsessed with our old home videos so the album will most likely be focused on family or how I am the youngest of four children who are adults and have all moved out.
