GETTING TO KNOW LOUIS BATEY
by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio
Person Interviewing: Louis Batey
Song name: “Mambo New York Style.”
Music Genre: Mambo, Salsa, Latin-Jazz, Latin R&B/Pop
My Composition “Mambo New York” Style, is dedicated to the New York-Style Mambo/Salsa Music and the New York “Mambo On2” Dance-Style, that is popular in the USA and World-Wide. “Mambo New York Style” is a combination of the Mambo Music style of the Golden age of Mambo during the 1950’s to 1960’s and also, the Contemporary Latin-Jazz and R&B/Pop of today’s Mainstream Music.
My Composition “Mambo New York Style”…
has already generated interest among Mambo and Salsa Dancers and also, Mambo and Salsa Club DJ’s World-Wide. “Mambo New York Style,” is an exciting Song, that will promote the concept and popular fashion trend of Mambo/Salsa Music, Mambo/Salsa Dancing and also, will encourage more people to become lovers of Mambo/Salsa Music and Mambo/Salsa Dancing. Also, “Mambo New York Style” is the perfect song to be played at major Mambo and Salsa festivals and congresses, which takes place every year in the USA and also, World-Wide!
I currently live in London England…
London is internationally-known for its ever-changing artistic trends, both in Music and Fashion. The Mambo and Salsa Scene has become increasingly-popular in London and Mambo and Salsa instructors from the USA visit London often to teach Mambo and Salsa Dance, in the form of intensive dance courses.
Now is a very exciting and optimistic time for independent Songwriters and artists to promote and market themselves to the Music Industry. For example, there are many credible music promotion companies such as AVA LIVE Radio, who provide the worthwhile and essential opportunity for artists to promote their music and artist brand, however, although there are now more opportunities for songwriters and artists to market and promote themselves, most songwriters and artists have to work harder, by writing and recording their own songs, creating their own artwork and design to promote their music and artist image and also, manage their own music admin work, music expenses and accounts.
I would love to have 5 minutes alone with….
I have many musical role models and heroes, spanning many generations. I grew up listening to Big Band/Swing, Jive/Rhythm and Blues/1950’s Rock and Roll Music, Country, Blues, Soul and Latin Music such as Mambo and Salsa.
My musical heroes include Elvis Presley, Swing Big Band Orchestra Leaders such as Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Swing/Jive Rhythm and Blues legends such as Louis Jordan and Louis Prima, Country legends such as Jim Reeves, Tennessee Ernie Ford and Latin Music Legends such as the Mambo King: Tito (“El Rey”) Puente.
I was fortunate to see Tito Puente perform LIve in London with is Mambo Orchestra on more than one occasion, before he sadly passed-away. I would love to have spent 5 minutes alone with Tito Puente, to ask what it was like when he used to perform at the legendary Palladium Ballroom in New York, during the 1950’s.
