“My grandpa once said to me : When the fruit’s ripe, it’ll fall off the tree by itself. That was too complicated for me. I’d simply climb the tree and pick the half ripe fruit, or the ripen one. Either eat it straight away, or put it aside and let it ripen a bit more so that I can taste that sweetness in the fruit, later. I understood that metaphor years later. That sense of purpose is that sweetness in the ripen fruit.” – Percy Way :: Sheffield, Eng. @Percyway1
My brother had a rock band playing covers of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Santana, including a few originals. One night I fell asleep by the closed garage door, while the band was rehearsing. I was thirteen years old, and dreamt I was playing in front of a huge crowd, somewhere in a colorful and secluded corner of my imagination. Three weeks later, I was given the band’s bass guitar in order to replace the bass player who got fired. The band had an important gig coming up within the next couple weeks.
“In My Dreams”.…
It’s one of those songs that just simply falls into place as if you’re kind of being guided. One summer night, a good friend of mine stopped by the house for dinner. At a late hour of the night or rather an early hour of the morning, we started talking about dreams. And at one point we started talking about how girls we’ve known in the past, sometimes just pop in our dreams, or in our thoughts. It happens to everyone, and can be well explained in a scientific way. A smell, an object, something that just opens the unconscious gate to our secret garden. But it was the romantic aspect that appealed to me. That night I dreamt of a past love and lived that dream as if we were both there together, in the past, doing what we used to love to do together. With one paradox, knowingly even though while dreaming, that it was only a dream. Was it really? The lyrics were written right there, and brought to a real recording overnight.
The music scene in Sheffield…
Somehow, has always been a fertile land for pop music, including synth pop and electronic music. Always lots happening. Some of my musical influences were born there namely Joe Cocker, Def Leppard, The Human League, Cabaret Voltaire. The city has the highest ratio of trees to people of any city in Europe. That says much, Botanical gardens, Endcliffe Park, Kelham Island museum. But I guess it depends on what you personally want but generally speaking, there’s things to do for all tastes. I like to be close to nature. And just love sleeping. Reading, gardening, nature related activities, long walks in the woods. But they all lead to sleeping at some point.
Connecting with people using social media is…
one of the most exciting things of the century. However, it’s how you nurture connections, what you aim at, what you develop. At the end of the day, some kind of sharing has to be done in a positive way. Well, that’s the way I see it. So, obviously there’s always challenges with technology because that’s what we’re talking about here, using technology to reach people.
I want to be remembered for…
If a song touches someone’s soul, it will remain in that person’s consciousness for the rest of his or her life. If it’s a positive vibe, it’s even better. And if you can dance on it, then you’re in paradise. So, at my last breathe, if my music during my lifetime, helped heal the pain somehow, I swear I’ll throw the biggest party with God up there.
Life…Money.. and Waiting for the fruit to ripen…
My grandpa once said to me “when the fruit’s ripe, it’ll fall off the tree by itself”. That was too complicated for me. I’d simply climb the tree and pick the half ripe fruit, or the ripen one. Either eat it straight away, or put it aside and let it ripen a bit more so that I can taste that sweetness in the fruit, later. I understood that metaphor years later. That sense of purpose is that sweetness in the ripen fruit.
The next question that rose was how you get to that ripen point? I suppose nature has its own ways of helping each one of us reaching that point depending on how mature someone is.
Money is a tool. Always been. If you’ve got music in you, you’ll always do music. One way or another because it’s vital to your soul. Money has nothing to do with this bit.
Negative energy has value only if you give it some kind of value. And generally speaking it comes from one’s own mind. Negative energy is not equal to money. So why bother with it?
Too much emphasis? Free will. I’ve always written songs disregarding musical trends but always kept in mind new technology and new sounds. That how I hear Rock N Roll. That’s how I set my own trend because that’s what I want to be remembered for. No one else can do it for me, besides myself.
There will be emphasis on my trend when people, listeners and/or viewers will feel there is a close bond between us and that we can communicate.
The Big Picture..
Living is an endless learning process. Every time I have the opportunity to fly from one place to another, I always love looking through the aircraft window. I always try to get a window seat. It reminds me of how insignificant I can be. Put things back into perspective.
Definition of success..
Accomplishing my goal.
DO you have Limits…
Of course. The sky! Just kidding! No limits. It’s a state of mind.
Favorite curse word…
God Damn SOB
If heaven exists what’s the first thing you would like to hear god say when you arrive at the pearly gates?
Well done buddy!
