JACQUELINE JAX: How did you get your start in music?

Tizzy: Listening to Big Daddy Kane,Rakim and LL Cool J.. I never did take the craft seriously until years later. In 2007 I took my friend Antwan (may he rest in peace) to Joel’s studio Antwan just didn’t have the feel for it that day as far as recording so I said let me step into the booth since I have never done it before. I stepped into that booth and an energy took over me and it was right then and there that I knew, this is where I need to be. Joel heard me and was like you have potential but you really suck right now. He said I am going to give you free studio time but you must do something for me and that is practice, practice, practice.. We became close friends. Joel and Antwan believed in me. It was because of this strangers belief in me that I focused  ..He is no longer with us either..So I made a promise to never give up and do it for him..

Tell me about your song “I Gets Ill”
Did anything sad or funny happen during the process…Look at the first question..lol..Let me explain.. I stumbled a little throughout the yrs and felt I’m getting older I can’t do this I had self doubt..The song titled “I Gets ILL”  is me rejuvenated reintroducing myself.

What’s the music scene like in your town?
There is sooooo much talent in my town yet no guidance..I love to grab the remote control and practice in the living room and pretend I am a choreographer..lol..and vision how the video would be..
I love to do impersonations of character(cartoon or real life people and make a song with their voices.lol

What do you like about social media?
You can communicate with all your fans and expand your fan base. You didn’t have that years ago..I have had to overcome assuming that someone is not going to listen and find a reason to give to listen by cracking a joke telling a story interacting with the future fans..Hence how I said future 😉

Why do you think it’s so hard for indie artists to break into the mainstream big markets and gain a solid fan base?
Some don’t know how to go about getting resources and finding the time to Market themselves..I find it hard because honestly it can become frustrating and make one give in to the negativity.

Who is your favorite artist?
LL Cool J and Rakim….They can rap right now at this day and age and sound like they are never old.classic style can be trendy with today’s music..I was in a contest on LL Cool J’s website called Boomdizzle and had a conversation with his daughter who happened to like my style. It reminded her of her dad.

Every true artist has a creative journey they hope for, what is the legacy you want to leave?
I want to leave one saying hip hop true hip hop never dies and how I want to be remembered is wow did you see this older rapper he came out of nowhere and he came like he was always in the rap game and left his mark..

Artists who seek to make their art a career often face challenges that question their sense of purpose and creativity.. What is your experience with negative energy?
When people that you love don’t believe in you because sometimes they may have every reason not to.Me for example I start things and never finished them..
But when it comes to a skill that you find within yourself and you have this much passion for making music I am not dead yet so that being said I do it to prove to myself that this is it!! You have one chance.

Do you follow trendy when creating your music?
Now as far as trendy? I seek a beat and still keep that old school flow and can balance it out with today’s music .I have that much passion it just comes out of me and I become one with any beat I cherish.

Are you religious?Yes Do you believe in fate?Y
es two people came into my life(Antwan and Joel)and now this wonderful singer Rachel..and changed everything (Whatever is meant for you will come your way?)That question yes and no..sometimes you have to grab it..lol. Do you believe that if you think positively and imagine yourself being that person, living a certain way or enjoying something you’ve always wanted you can bring it to you?Yes

What are you thankful for?
I am thankful for family and friends and my kids..I am thankful for God helping through things even when I felt he wasn’t..Bringing people into my life to help me ..

Where do you hope to see yourself in 5 years?
Running my own studio and business and helping other people believe in themselves..waaaaaaaay too much talent and not enough help..

What do you want most and how do you know it will make you happy?
I want more for my kids..and to be a better Father and not be remembered as a Dad..For them to know I tried and if I can do it so can they..For them to always be proud of me ..

Have you ever stepped back to look at the bigger picture of who you are and where you fit in this world?
Yes all the time..Like wow why am I here do I really want to be famous. You know the answer? It is noo..!!!I want entertain because it brings me joy..the famous will come regardless because I would have no choice. Tell me you thoughts on your self discovery or lack of discovery. My thoughts are better late then never. And thanks God for wisdom.lol What have you learned and what do you have yet to learn. I still am learning to stop thinking too much and having self doubt

In your opinion what is the best way for someone to discover what they are good at and or what will make them happy?
Find something that they like to do and don’t just sit around and waste their talent.if you can draw then hey do something with that!! If you play the drums or any instrument do it!!Join a band. You never know

How can your life become more rich?
Surround myself with positive people suck as Jacqueline Jax 😉 Express one idea you have that would make your life richer today. Positive life music and do what I feel is good music..Make people smile…Be more positive…

How do you handle conflict in your life?
I write a poem.it takes me to another place..and get a hug from my kids..Hey it makes me feel unstoppable. Think of a conflicting occurrence and describe how you coped or resolved it or how you couldn’t.I was in a bar and this guy bumped into me and spilled his drink on himself.(you see where I’m going with this.lol)He as like hey mf you spilled my drank yes he said my drank..!!I used an impression on him.I went Nigerian accent on him.and apologies in that voice.and was like let me by you another come come ..come with me(in my Nigerian voice)You know how they say never hit a man with glasses..Who would strike a foreigner..lol.He was shocked and amused by my voice..It worked!!!

What is your personal definition of success?
Me standing here talking about it and remembering this conversation a year or two from now.How about a few months haha

Do you feel that you have limits to what you can do and achieve? There are limits but there are also detours around them 😉

What’s your favorite curse word?
MF..lol

If heaven exists what’s the first thing you would like to hear god say when you arrive at the pearly gates?
God would say wow I really wanted to slap you!! All the smirks you were doing and the way you went about disowning me..lol
