Interview by Jacqueline Jax
host of A.V.A Live Radio
Band Name: Jamie Cain
Song name: Ghost
Music Genre:: Pop/Indie/Acoustic
This song is about…
The song ‘Ghost’ was written for anyone who has ever experienced being with a totally conceited, egotistical jack*** and having that revolutionary “I deserve better” moment. As I was writing it, I was imagining standing on a pedestal with my girl squad back-up, calling this person out for their true colors. Wouldn’t that be liberating?

My music is… Authentic, fun, and brutally honest.
This release represents my current direction because at one point was apart of how I was feeling and where I was in life. I used to think way too intricately about putting my music out there for people to hear and be so nervous about what listeners would think. One day I just said ‘screw it, if not today.. you never will.’ We change everyday, as we grow and learn and develop. Who knows, maybe I’ll want to write a bluegrass record tomorrow. I doubt it.. but if that’s how I feel, that’s what I’ll do.
Creating music is a very intimate process and for me…
each song has it’s own unique way of coming to fruition. Sometimes I literally have no control over it.
I’ve found myself waking up in the middle night grabbing a pen and paper because something inside of me says it’s gotta come out. If it’s good, I roll with it and find a way to fit those words into a melody. A lot of times (especially when I’m in the car) I’ll start humming and creating melodies. Some stick, some don’t.. others will sit for a period of time and I’ll come back around and want to work with it. That being said, songs can be written in minutes.. others can take years. It’s all about timing.
Collaboration is key. I have worked with a fair share of artists and hands down I can say that when the vibes are strong and the energy is there, some of the best music is written. It’s a magical experience and I always encourage artists to keep an open mind and be consistent in working with other artists.
Focus and balance…
Work life balance is something I feel that everyone struggles with at some point in their life. It is difficult sometimes, as I always want more time to write/create music, yet I wish for more time to spend with my girlfriend, but I want to work more so I can travel more or buy new accessories for my Jeep 😮 It’s an ongoing cycle of mediating wants vs. needs, but honestly I love the hustle. It’s the love in my heart and support around me that keeps me moving.
“In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.” – Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson is and has been one of the greatest musical influences on me since I was little. This piece of advice is so important to understand because we live in a world full of so much noise (hate, anger, despair) that it’s easy to get distracted and forget your heart. With hope, you can believe. With belief, you can dream. With dreams, you stand to keep the demons at bay.
I live in…
Cincinnati, Ohio and the music scene here is pretty strong. There are plenty of places where musicians can go to showcase their music. However, there are not many artists I have discovered who have a similar style as mine. So I’m not sure if there is an audience for pop music here. I’ve only lived here for 2 years, so who knows.. I may be going to the wrong spots!
