Sometimes I write the lyrics and melody and they make the beats behind it, other times we both write the lyrics and music, and sometimes it’s all me. Each project has been a unique learning experience. I’m grateful for every opportunity I have had and been a part of over the years.

Interview by Jacqueline Jax host of A.V.A Live Radio
Band Name: Jeanine Del Carlo
Song name: Definition Diva
Music Genre: Pop
This song is a women’s empowerment anthem; it celebrates being a woman. I feel like this song represents the new Diva of the 21st Century… She loves to dance, go out, loves music, creates, loves people, works on herself and is in charge of her life. It’s about loving yourself and all the different parts of our personalities.

Your current direction and influences…
The music I create is a mixture of Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, Funk and Soul music. I have worked with different producers over the years when making music. Sometimes I write the lyrics and melody and they make the beats behind it, other times we both write the lyrics and music, and sometimes it’s all me. Each project has been a unique learning experience. I’m grateful for every opportunity I have had and been a part of over the years.
I write from personal experience and I also write from a collective consciousness that I believe we are all connected to. Lyrics and melodies come to me all the time, like waves do to the ocean.
This song is a quintessential pop song for going out with your friends, rocking out at home while you’re getting ready for your day and for dancing the night away! I have always loved Pop music and this release represents a Pop/R&B/Soul kind of vibe that my music continues to evolve into. I really love experimenting with different songs and vocal styles to grow as an artist.
My direction for music is to make music that touches your heart, mind, soul and a universal message that we are all one on this planet.
I like to sing about all the different parts of life that we all experience. Love, loss, good times, hard times and persevering through challenges, family and life in general.
In the studio…
I have recorded music in studios in LA and also home studios. I tend to create my music in my home studio with my computer, keyboard, vocals and Abelton Live. I have recorded with Pro Tools and Logic as well and love all of the different DAWS. Whenever I have collaborated we normally go into a studio or record in a home studio. The creative process is different each time depending on who I’m working with and what kind of song we are writing. My latest album was recorded in my home studio along with my latest single ‘Acquainted’ which I also recorded at home.
Finding my balance…
I’m learning and growing everyday. I started exercising when I was 15 years old at a gym and I believe this was key to me developing a self discipline to take care of my mind and body. I also danced through my childhood and up to now. Movement helps me let go and stay focused. Life throws you curve balls and when I left home at 21 I had no idea what I was going to encounter on my journey. I have been through many challenges in my life, have made many mistakes, accomplished life goals and I am also beyond grateful for the blessings in my life. Right now I’m focused on elevating my career in the music business and entertainment. Every day I set goals to accomplish for the day, month and year.
I live each day to the fullest as I know what it’s like not to be present, to be lost emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I’m grateful to be alive and everyday is a gift.
What piece of music advice forever changed your way of thinking?
One day many years ago I was a party with my Dad in Ojai, California and this lady walks up to me and looks at me “Who are you?” she said. I said “I’m Jeanine Del Carlo, John’s daughter. She says “Well, that’s nice, what are you doing with your life?” I said “I’m a singer/songwriter/actress/dancer.” And what she said next has stuck with me to this day and I will always be so grateful for her advice.
She said “Don’t wait around for anyone to give you any opportunities, you go out and make it happen. You create your destiny and you make your opportunities happen.”
This was the advice that forever changed me and it turned out this lady was a Linda Hunt, an Academy Award winning actress. I was humbled by what she said and I took what she told me and started paving my way with concerts and releasing music.
I have lived in Portland, OR, since 2016 and before that I was living in LA from 2004. I am still getting to know the music scene here in Portland. There are all different styles of music here. Jazz is popular along with Rock & Roll and I have seen a lot of hip-hop artists through the concerts I have been part of.
Portland has a saying “Keep Portland Weird” and I think really any kind of music goes here. Portland people are very open minded.
