Jacqueline Jax: How did you get started in music?
Joanna: I’ve always been a singer, although never thought of it as something I could pursue as a career until a friend told me about a music course in a nearby town. After jumping at the chance to attend, I shortly after found myself involved with an originals band as the lead vocalist and everything else just flew from there.
Jacqueline: Does music run in your family? If so who and how were you influenced by them.
Joanna: As I was growing up, one of my brothers taught him self to play the guitar and wrote his own songs. I use to enjoy listening and would sing harmonies so we could perform together at family parties, so I guess that’s my inspiration which was great fun to do.
Jacqueline: Tell me an interesting story or memory from recording your last album.
Joanna: I do have a really lovely story to tell… While recording my album ‘Inside Out’ I was pregnant with my baby girl. It was such an amazing experience for me, because while I was recording I would feel her moving around to my singing voice and the music. Even now when I sing to her or play the album she loves it and listens.
Both having a baby and recording a full album are two important things that I’ve wanted for such a long time and it’s magic how they happened pretty much together. The album launch party was held when I was eight months and since by then I couldn’t really reach the guitar strings over my big belly, a friend of mine stepped in to play my parts, so I could focus on singing my heart out and putting on a good show.
