New Single It Feels Like December by Washington Songwriter Gary Talbott

This is my very first holiday song so that’s a new thing. This song will be on my 2018 Spring album, but it is a bit different from my other material.  I have a pretty specific sound and while this is a different genre, it still fits in there. I actually released this song out because I was unable to finish my album project this year. I wanted to give something to the people who have supported me all this time.

Single: It Feels Like December

Music Genre: Holiday Pop : Pop – Jazz – R&B

“It feels like December” is about a boy singing to his true love about how their love reminds him of the warmth and nostalgia of Christmas time. This is my very first holiday song so that’s a new thing. This song will be on my 2018 Spring album, but it is a bit different from my other material.

Ultimately, I have a pretty specific sound and while this is a different genre, it still fits in there. I actually released this song out because I was unable to finish my album project this year. I wanted to give something to the people who have supported me all this time. https://soundcloud.com/gary-talbott/it-feels-like-december

I usually create all the music in my own home studio, but I know a lot of musicians and will occasionally record elsewhere. I hope to do some recording with Charlie Hines and Cave Records for this coming project. Very talented crew there.

While I normally like to handle the final mix, I am starting to let that go a bit and maybe rely on others to see how it sounds. I also tend to go to Sage Audio for mastering and final touches.

They have a very professional responsive team and the final product is very reliable.

Balancing Act…

I do a lot of international travel. Despite this, I manage to keep positive and carve out time to create, record and perform. You must enjoy the moments. Avoid creating your own stress. Let your heart guide you through your day to day and trust that if you truly want something in your life, it will be. I am one of those people that can have multiple projects all going on at that same time and be perfectly relaxed in my space. I realize not everyone is like that, but it works for me.

I have a music guru that forever changed the way I look at music.

His name is Khaliq Glover and he is a genius of music engineering. He has worked with the best of the best and he is a wonderful person. He helped me understand how to move past that point of making music that almost sounds ready, to music that sounds like it should be on the Top40.

I remember one time I was listening to him talk to the legendary Herbie Hancock and Herbie said… “Learn and become proficient at the rules of music.. then break all of them”. I am para-phrasing of course but that little perl changed my perception quite a bit as well.

My music is much better thanks to moments like that.

I live in the Washington DC area where there is a decent amount of music out here and I have met and worked with some VERY talented folks. I can’t wait to get my project finished so I can get back out in front of the crowd. I had the chance to perform at the Howard Theatre in DC in 2016 & 2017. I would really like to perform there again.
