I’ll bet you didn’t realize how much traffic is driven by Pinterest. People often use Pinterest to create lists of thing they like, want to purchase, places they want to visit, things they want to remember. With this in mind ill bet you can already think of ways that Pinterest can be working for you to get your products in front of people and make you more sales.

Pinterest users are:

  • 80% female.
  • 30% women between the ages of 25 and 34.
  • mostly living in the Midwest.
When it comes to marketing, information is invaluable! For example, if your customers are mostly female, secure a prime marketing position on Pinterest.  Currently the third most popular social media site in the world with 10.4 million users in 2012. Pinterest is the one of the most popular social channels to sell your products and share your services. Pinterest users are 10% more likely to make a purchase than any users on any other social media site. 
Pinterest is a powerful traffic driver, via images you post with a small description or web link. You should work with adding text to your images and try pinning close up shots of your images for additional views. If you select a picture from your website to use, the pin should provide a link back to your website and thus becomes a great traffic driver. 
Don’t forget to share your Pinterest posts to your twitter and Facebook media pages as well for additional traffic and to let your friends know where you can be found.
How to Pin

Sign up for a free account using an email address, Facebook, or Twitter.

Upload pins, (pictures or videos), from a website or your computer using the “Red Plus” button at the top of the page. Or, you can search Pinterest for images on the site  to “Repin”.

Create “Boards” to categorize your different pins.

Then go participate: You can find boards to follow, and then keep up to date on when that Pinterest user adds Pins to her board. You can comment on pins, and share pins and boards on Facebook and Twitter.

You can also add “Place Pins.” When you create a new board to add a map.

Best times to Pin. specific times and content that are best for pinning:

  • During the day between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM EST
  • During the night between 8:00 PM and 1 AM EST

Try to pin about trending topics, because they will have a 94% higher click-through rate.

You can research what is trending using Google AdWords or Raven Tools.

Relevance – relevance is something that makes certain pages a real success. A brands ability to use the seasons as a platform for their mood board is a really great idea to attract an audience and buyer.

Engagement – the key to engagement is to make sure your front page is eye catching. The use of bold colours and relevant boards with interesting names equals a strong front page, that will engage the audience.

Photography – beautiful! Unbelievably great photography filling both the front page and the category pages. The use of particularly eye catching images really goes a long way.   Mix up your pins with different skyscraper and square pins as well as inspirational messages that apply to your boards.
