I always loved music and songs.
I was the kind of person that would replay the same song over and over in my car. I played piano growing up, then picked up guitar. I was always a writer, but put the two together and started writing songs and performing them in 2000 @shansmusic

Love Knew Better

It’s about how sometimes you don’t know what God/the universe
has in store for you in the area of love…but love has a mind of its own!

I write songs from a place of authenticity,
and this album has the truth as I see it woven through it. These are roosty and raw live-sounding recordings that I’m getting a great response too! One of the songs, Truth About Trains, was already named a top 10 radio hit in the UK! So exciting!

I live in Music City—Nashville—so music is a way of life.
You see hit songwriters at the dog park, you see artists at the grocery store. And there is great live music any night of the week.

I think there are challenges in today’s music industry.
First, legally, there are issues around what songwriters are being paid (recent DOJ ruling) making it nearly impossible to make a living as a writer. I mean, can you imagine having a song played on Pandora 11million times and making like $900? That’s real in today’s industry. Also, it can be difficult to ‘cut through’ all the music that’s out there and find the people that really connect with you as an artist because there is so much noise. On the plus side, there is still a lot of opportunity, for great music to be heard in a lot of ways.

There are a lot of experiences as I’ve been at this for 16 years.
I blog a lot about what I’ve learned as an indie artist at my website, and offer advice for what I’ve seen work and not work first hand. www.shantellogden.com/blog

I grew up on a farm in rural Utah
and I’ve often said that all that manure and hard work prepared me for the music industry! I just keep at it, day after day, inch after inch, and do the very best work I can as an artist and writer. Dreams are great, but hustle is sold separately.

I’m inspired by so many people it would be hard to pick!
World leaders, spiritual leaders, authors, musicians, actors…you name it. I could sit in a room with anyone and find something about them I admire!
