My music is…
Hard to describe. I don’t like the idea of having my music pigeonholed. Some of it is based on my own experiences, but much of it is inspired by things I see and hear around me. That same difficulty for me applies to genre. I like to write in a variety of styles, so some of my songs have a bit of a rock flavor, while others have a little blues in the mix. Other songs may have a slight country flair to them.

I live in…
Boise, Idaho . . . The music scene is pretty vibrant for a medium-sized city. There are plenty of venues, although it can be difficult getting one’s foot in the door. There is also a local songwriters association that organizes live music events and works to promote and encourage local songwriters.

What defines “Success” to you?:
Having my music heard by others and having it resonate with people.

What piece of music advice forever changed your way of thinking?:
Another songwriter told participants at a workshop that they should write their truth and realize that truth is not the same thing as fact, especially when it comes to songwriting. Since then, I’ve tried to write songs that ring true even if the story is entirely fictional.
